Liaoning and Jilin are the two main sources for export to the EU market, as peanuts from these regions are not at risk of aflatoxin. The planting area in Liaoning decreased by 25%. Rainfall has exceeded demand and production is expected to be lower this year. Jilin’s production also fell by about 25% due to increased subsidies for maize. The new crop is doing well so far, and if the weather is good, we expect good yields here.
Inner Mongolia: Future peanut growing area, but this year the local government is encouraging farmers to grow more corn, as it can better withstand wind and help with sand fixation. Peanut planting area decreased by about 30% compared with the previous year.
Peanut prices for the 2021 crop are firm. Since July, the prices of many varieties have risen by about 50-100 US dollars / ton. Oil crushers continue to buy their stocks, realizing that the price of the new crop will be higher. Big peanut dealers won’t cut prices because the new crop will have less supply to the overall market.
